A Hint of Noir Glamour in Zagreb

NOIR FESTIVAL, 5 and 6 May 2011, Zagreb

Lovers of noir style will finally have their moment as Zagreb hosts the first NOIR Festival on 5 and 6 May. Taking place in several attractive city locations, such as the newly refurbished VELVET Gallery, the cult art-cinema Tuškanac, and the open-air cinema set up exclusively for the occasion in the Tuškanac playing fields in the idyllic city forest, all lovers of noir art will be able to enjoy the two-day festival programme—film screenings, a photo exhibition as well as the opportunity to find out more about film noir at a special round table discussion.

Tea with the British Ambassador and Representatives of Croatian Language Schools at Velvet

The British Council, as an international organization promoting educational and cultural ties, arranged, at Velvet Gallery and Café on Dežmanov prolaz, a social event with the British Ambassador, David Blunt, and representatives of the Croatian language schools which prepared the largest number of candidates for the international English language exams of the University of Cambridge in the last year.

CITIES – ESCAPES, the artist speaking about the exhibition…

‘Your cities are your escapes…Even your nickname – Mariachi, the travelling poet and wanderer, matches it…You have to understand that only occasionally you circle on the platforms of those people’s fates…’

‘I don’t believe in fate’ – I say – ‘only in coincidence. Maybe I am a passer-by in their lives and only instant photographs are left behind me. But, our moments were not instant at all. They will never fade away, like photographs…I will always remember them!’
